Mercury, often known as swift silver, is a peculiar metallic element that is notable for being the only metal that stays liquid at ambient temperature. Mercury is represented by the symbol Hg and is widely known as quicksilver. Due to its peculiar qualities and extensive variety of uses, mercury, which has an atomic number of 80, is a substance that is thick and silvery in appearance. It has been a subject of fascination for scientists over the course of history.

Properties and Occurrence of the Property
Mercury is noteworthy for its high density and electrical conductivity; nevertheless, in comparison to other metals, it is not very good at conducting heat. In the process of extracting metals, mainly gold and silver, it has shown to be beneficial due to its capacity to create amalgams with other metals, with the exception of iron. This ability is one of its most important characteristics. Generally speaking, mercury is derived from the mineral cinnabar (HgS) by means of heating, which results in the release of the pure metal in the form of a vapor.
